No Easy Street

In the 1902 novel, It's Up to You, a prosperous character was said to have walked on Easy Street, meaning he was able to live life comfortably; he had no worries.
In today's reading, Eli's sons thought they were living on Easy Street. They were part of the priestly line that God had promised would stand forever. They had access to all the offerings coming in from the people. They were in a position that they thought was secure. Even their father didn't do anything to stop them from taking advantage of the offerings. Nevertheless. God did not over look their sins. God would put a stop to it one way or another.
As we move forward in our spiritual journey, we are grateful that nothing "in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Jesus Christ our Lord" (Rom.8:39b). But that doesn't give us license to sit back and take it easy, thinking that we are now safe. We must remain faithful in God's service today and every day; otherwise,God will raise up others who will be faithful. There is no "Easy Street."
Lord, help me to live in such a way that my children will want to put their hands in the hand of God (Harold Bonner).
