WHY DO BELIEVERS IN CHRIST REJECT BIBLICAL BAPTISM?
The
Bible is quite clear as to the purpose of water baptism. There is no
ambiguity as to who qualifies as candidates for water baptism. Why is
there so much confusion and disagreement among believers in Christ?
THE CAUSES OF UNCERTAINTY ABOUT WATER BAPTISM.
1. Many reject the Bible as the only and final authority of faith and practice.
2.
More than a few believe that God is still giving new revelation. The
would make the Bible subject to revision and changes, making the Bible a
secondary source for truth.
3.
Some do not believe that the Bible is the inerrant word of God. If you
do not trust the Bible, why would you believe what God says about water
baptism?
4. Many simply explain away the Scriptures about water baptism in order to support the traditions they have been taught.
5. One of the popular ways to discredit the Bible and the purpose of water Baptism is to claim that the Scriptures have been mistranslated. Which, in fact, is saying God does not have the power to see that we have a Bible that is trustworthy.
THE QUALIFIED CANDIDATES FOR WATER BAPTISM
Qualified candidates are believers of the gospel. On the Day of Pentecost the apostle Peter preached the death, the burial, and resurrection of Jesus. Peter preached Jesus as both Lord and Christ. When they believed and were convicted of sin they were baptized in water. (Acts 2:22-41.....37 Now when they heard this, they were pierced to the heart, and said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, "Brethren what shall we do?"........41 So then those who received the word were baptized....)
Believers of the gospel are the only qualified candidates for water baptism. Non-believers are not qualified. Dead men are not capable of believing; they are not qualified. Infants are not capable of believing the gospel; they are not qualified candidates for baptism.
THE PURPOSE OF WATER BAPTISM
The purpose of water baptism is for the forgiveness of sins. (Acts 2:38 ....and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of our sins...) The purpose of water baptism is in order to be saved (Mark 16:16....have been baptized shall be saved....)(Acts 2:40-41 ...."Be saved from this perverse generation! 41 So then, those who received the word were baptized....) Those who were told to be saved were baptized.
When it comes to who is qualified to be baptized and the purpose of baptism, the Bible makes it clear. There is no ambiguity. There is no uncertainty. There is no vagueness. There is no enigma.
IF MEN WOULD SIMPLY TRUST THAT GOD HAS THE POWER TO GIVE THEM, A TRUSTWORTHY, TRANSLATION OF THE BIBLE; THERE WOULD BE NO CONFUSION OVER WHO IS QUALIFIED TO BE BAPTIZED AND THE PURPOSE OF WATER BAPTISM!
