DO MEN RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT THE MOMENT THEY BELIEVE?

DO MEN RECEIVE THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT THE MOMENT THEY BELIEVE?

When do Christians receive the indwelling gift of the Holy Spirit? In other words when do believers in Christ receive the person of the Holy Spirit? Do men receive the gift of the Holy Spirit the moment they believe in Jesus or is it after they-believe-repent- confess-and are baptized in water?

Except for the special case of Cornelius, his family, and friends, believers do not receive the indwelling gift of the Holy Spirit until they are baptized in water as the apostle Peter commanded. Cornelius received the Holy Spirit to prove to Jewish Christians that salvation was for the Gentiles as well.

The apostle Paul found some disciples of Christ and asked this question. (Acts 19:2 He said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?"  And they said to him, "No, we have not even heard whether there is a Holy Spirit.")

Contrary to what some Bible commentaries say, Paul did ask them if they had spoken in tongues or received other spiritual gifts since they believed.

Point: These disciples of Christ were already believers. They not only had not received the indwelling gift of the Holy Spirit, they had not even heard that there was a Holy Spirit.

Acts 19:3-4 And he said, "Into what then were you baptized?" And they said, "Into John's baptism." 4 Paul said, "John baptized with the baptism of repentance, telling the people to believe in Him who, was coming after him, that is, in Jesus."

John's baptism was not valid after the Day of Pentecost. Even though they believed in Jesus they did not receive the Holy Spirit.

Acts 19:5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

They needed to be baptized as Jesus instructed (In the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit Matt.28:19) and as the apostle Peter implemented, in order to receive forgiveness of sins and to receive the indwelling gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:38)

After they were baptized in water Paul laid his hands on them and they spoke in tongues and began prophesying.(Acts 19:6)
Paul did not impart the indwelling gift of the person of the Holy Spirit. They received the Holy Spirit Himself at the time of their being baptized in the name of the Lord.

Romans 1:11 For I long to see you so, that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be established;

The apostle Paul and the rest of the apostles could impart spiritual gifts, to Christians, through the laying on of hands, however, they did not have the power to give the person of the Holy Spirit to others.

WATER AND SPIRIT ARE LINKED

John 3:5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you unless one is born of water and the Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.

WATER AND THE SPIRIT

Titus 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration [water baptism] and renewing by the Holy Spirit.

WATER AND THE SPIRIT

The three thousand souls on the Day of Pentecost did not receive the indwelling gift of the Holy Spirit until there were baptized in the name of the Lord.

The twelve men at Ephesus did not receive the indwelling gift of the Holy Spirit until they were baptized in the name of the Lord.

MEN TODAY, DO NOT RECEIVE THE INDWELLING GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT THE MOMENT THEY BELIEVE

MEN RECEIVE THE HOLY SPIRIT AFTER THEY ---BELIEVE---THEY REPENT---THEY CONFESS JESUS AS LORD AND SAVIOR---AND ARE IMMERSED IN WATER FOR THE REMISSION OF THEIR SINS.

SALVATION---ONLY OR ALONE?

SALVATION---ONLY OR ALONE?

How many times in the Bible are the words only or alone used when referencing the requirements of salvation?  To obtain a clear understand of God's word you have to consider all of the Scriptures of any particular teaching.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SALVATION!

Mark 16:16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

Jesus did not say he who has only believed shall be saved.

Jesus did not say he who has only been baptized shall be saved.

Jesus also did not say only he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

Acts 15:7-11...Peter stood up....11But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they also are."

Peter did not say they were saved by grace alone.

Acts 16:29-31....They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."

Paul and Silas did not say believe only and you will be saved.

Romans 10:9 that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

Paul did not say confess with your mouth only and you will be saved.

Paul did not say believe in the resurrection of Jesus only and you will be saved.

Titus 3:5 He saved us, not on the basis of deeds which we have done in righteousness, but according to His mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit,

Paul did not He saved us by mercy alone.

Paul did not say He saved us by washing of regeneration alone.

Paul did not say He saved us by renewing by the Holy Spirit alone.

1 Peter 3:20-21....Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you....

Peter did not say that baptism alone saves you.

Acts 3:19 Therefore repent and return, so that your sins may be wiped away, in order that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord;

Peter did not say repent only and you will have your sins wiped away.

Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Peter did not say repent only and your sins will be forgiven.

Peter did not say be baptized only and your sins will be forgiven.

REQUIREMENTS FOR SALVATION
GRACE
FAITH
REPENTANCE
CONFESSION
WATER BAPTISM

THERE IS JUST ONE ONLY AND THAT IS JESUS AS THE ONLY SAVIOR.

Acts 4:12 And there is salvation in no one else...

The only place you find the terms saved by grace alone and saved by faith only is in man-made creed books. YOU CANNOT FIND THOSE TERMS IN THE BIBLE!

JOHN DOE AND HIS JUDGMENT?

JOHN DOE AND HIS JUDGMENT?

Have men been given the authority to judge John Doe? Is John Doe's eternal destiny the responsibility of man's judgment? Some believe they have that authority.

1. John Doe was a good man, he loved his family, was faithful to his wife, never mistreated his children, and never took the first drink of alcohol. John gave money to the poor and visited the sick. John never confessed Jesus as Lord and Savior. John Doe was an unbeliever. Men have made the judgment that he will go to heaven because he was a good man.

Ephesians 2:8:9 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; 9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
John 8:24 'Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am He you will die in yours sins.

Is it right to pass judgment on John Doe and send him to heaven? No it is not!

2. John Doe confessed Jesus as Lord and Savior on his deathbed, however, he did not have time to be baptized in water. Men say, John is in heaven because he ran out of time.

Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Have men been given the power to determine that John Doe will be in heaven even though he failed to meet God's requirements for the forgiveness of his sins? Should men pass judgment on John Doe and send him to heaven? No they should not.

3. John Doe became a Christian forty years ago, however, for the last thirty years John has been an unrepentant fornicator, a drunkard, a homosexual, and a thief. Men say, John died without repenting of those sins and is now in heaven. They say, he is in heaven because he was saved and once saved always saved.

1 Corinthians 6:9-10 Or do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators....nor homosexuals, 10 nor thieves....nor drunkards...will inherit the the kingdom of God.

Do men have jurisdiction over the entrance to the kingdom of God? Can men pass judgment on unrepentant sinners, like John Doe, and send them to heaven? No they cannot.

CAN MEN PASS JUDGMENT ON THE JOHN DOES OF THIS WORLD AND SEND THEM TO HEAVEN?

Proverbs 16:25 There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.

MEN TODAY ARE BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT; JUST AS, WAS CORNELIUS. IS THAT WHAT YOU THINK?

MEN TODAY ARE BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT; JUST AS, WAS CORNELIUS. IS THAT WHAT YOU THINK?

Cornelius, his relatives and close friends were the first Gentile converts to Christianity. (Acts Chapter 10 & 11) They were baptized with the Holy Spirit, just as Peter and the eleven apostles were on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 11:13-17)

Cornelius and company were baptized with the Holy Spirit before they were baptized in water. Did that indicate they did not have to baptized in water to be born again? Did that mean they could be saved without being immersed in water? If that is true, why did Peter say "Surely no one can refuse the water for these to be baptized who have received the Holy Spirit just as we did, can he?"(Acts 10:47) If they were already saved, born again, had their sins washed away and had been added to the Lord's church, then for what reason were they baptized in water?

If all men today are baptized with the Holy Spirit the moment they believed in Jesus, then it stands to reason it would occur just as it did with Peter, the eleven apostles and Cornelius and company.

Acts 11:15 And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them just as He did upon us at the beginning.

How did the Holy Spirit fall on Peter and the apostles in the beginning?

1. Acts 2:2 And suddenly there came from heaven a noise like a violent rushing wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting.

If the Holy Spirit fell on Cornelius as it did the apostles, then, there was a violent rushing wind.
Is that what happens in your church when believers receive the baptism of the holy Spirit before they are baptized in water.

2. Acts 2:3 And there appeared to them tongues as of fire distributing themselves, and they rested on each one of them.

Do tongues of fire rest on the heads of all, in your church congregation, who believe the gospel of Jesus Christ even though they are not baptized in water?

3. Acts 2:4 And they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

Do all of your church members speak in tongues the minute they believe? Cornelius spoke in tongues before he was baptized in water.

4. Acts 2:6-11 And when this sound occurred, the crowd came together, and were bewildered because each one of them was hearing them speak in his owe language......11...we hear them in our own tongues speaking of the mighty deeds of God."

Do all in your church who believe and receive the Holy Spirit before they are baptized in water speak in languages that men from the whole known world can understand?

If you believe you can receive the Holy Spirit as did Cornelius, (before water baptism), then, where is the evidence?

WHY DID PETER BAPTIZE CORNELIUS?

1. Peter baptized Cornelius in water so he could enter the kingdom of God.(John 3:5 Jesus answered, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and Spirit he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.) It takes water and Spirit to enter the kingdom of God.

2. Why did Cornelius have to be baptized in water? So his sins could be forgiven. (Acts 2:38 ....baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins...)

3. Why did Cornelius need to be baptized in water? Answer: So he could be saved and added to the Lord's church. (Acts 2:40,41,47)

IF YOUR DENOMINATION RECEIVES THE HOLY SPIRIT WITHOUT BEING BAPTIZED IN WATER, JUST LIKE CORNELIUS---THEN, THE HOLY SPIRIT SHOULD BE FALLING ON THEM JUST LIKE IT DID ON THE TWELVE APOSTLES ON THE DAY OF PENTECOST!

NONEXISTENT SCRIPTURES

NONEXISTENT SCRIPTURES

"Faith only" believers no not agree that purpose of water baptism is 1. For the forgiveness of sins. 2. So that men can be saved. 3. That it is a baptism into Christ.

The purpose of water baptism according to "faith only' believers.

1. Baptism is a testimony of your faith.
2. Baptism is in order to become a member of a denomination.
3. Baptism is an outward sign of an inward grace that took place the minute you believe. It could have been that you were saved 2 days ago, 2 months ago or 2 years ago.
4. Baptism is just an act of obedience and has nothing to do with forgiveness of sins.

Here is a list of Scriptures that "faith only" believers use to support their doctrines for the purpose of water baptism

1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.

THAT IS CORRECT "FAITH ONLY " BELIEVERS USE NONEXISTENT SCRIPTURES TO SUPPORT THEIR DOCTRINES ON WATER BAPTISM.

SCRIPTURES THAT DO EXIST ARE AS FOLLOWS.

Mark 16:16 He who has believed and has been baptized shall be saved; but he who has disbelieved shall be condemned.

Acts 2:38 Peter said to them, "Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 3:27 For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.

Ephesians 5:25-28... as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself up for her, 26 so that He might sanctify her,  having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, 27 that He might present to Himself the church in all her glory, having no spot or any wrinkle; but that she would be holy and blameless.

Acts 22:16 Now why do you delay? Get up and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on His name.

Colossians 2:12-13 having been buried with Him in baptism, .........13.....He made you alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our transgressions,

1 Peter 3:20-21...through water. 21 Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you---

Romans 6:3-4 Or do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death? 4 Therefore we have been buried with Him through baptism int death, so that as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we too might walk in newness of life.

Before being baptized in water you were not walking in newness of life.

Before being baptized in water you were not saved.

Before being baptized in water your sins were not forgiven.

Before being baptized in water your sins were not washed away.

Before being baptized in water you transgression were not forgiven.

Before being baptized in water you were not in Christ.

Before being baptized in water you were not clothed with Christ.

Before being baptized in water you were not sanctified, you were not cleansed,
and you were not holy and blameless.

THE DOCTRINES THAT SUPPORT WATER BAPTISM AS BEING ESSENTIAL FOR SALVATION ARE ALL SUPPORTED BY SCRIPTURE!

THE SCRIPTURES THAT SUPPORT THE "FAITH ONLY" POSITIONS ON THE PURPOSE OF WATER BAPTISM ARE IMAGINARY, MAKE-BELIEVE, THE DOCTRINES OF MEN, THEY ARE NONEXISTENT SCRIPTURES!

YOU MIGHT NOT BE A TRUE APOSTLE

YOU MIGHT NOT BE A TRUE APOSTLE

 SIGNS OF A TRUE APOSTLE.

2 Corinthians 12:12 The signs of a true apostle were performed among you with all perseverance, by signs and wonders and miracles.

If you are not performing signs, wonders and miracles, you might not be a true apostle.

Acts 9:36-41 ....Tabitha...37 And it happened at that time that she fell sick and died...40 But Peter sent them all out and knelt down and prayed, and turning to the body, he said, "Tabitha, arise."....41...he presented her alive.

If you cannot pray the dead back to life, you might not be a true apostle.

Romans 1:11 For I long to see you so that I may impart some spiritual gift to you, that you may be established;

If you do not possess the ability to impart spiritual gifts, you might not be a true apostle.

Acts 3:1-8 ...2 And a man who had been lame from his mother's womb....6 But Peter said, "I do not possess silver and gold, but what I do have I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazarene---walk!"......8 With a leap he stood upright and began to walk...

If perhaps, you do not have the power to heal men who have been crippled from birth, you might not be a true apostle.

Acts 5:3-10 But Peter said, "Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit...9 Then Peter said to her, "Why is it that you have agreed together to put the Spirit of the Lord to the test? Behold the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out as well." 10 And immediately she fell at his feet and breathed her last....

If you cannot predict the immediate death of someone who has lied to the Holy Spirit, you might not be a true apostle.

Acts 13:8-11.....9 But Saul, who was also know as Paul...10...said, "You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord? 11 Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will be blind and not see the sun for a time....

If for some unknown reason you lack the ability to temporarily blind a sorcerer, you might not be a true apostle.

Acts 16:16-18 ...a slave-girl having a spirit of divination... 18 But Paul was greatly annoyed, and turned and said to the spirit, "I command you in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her!" And it came out at that very moment.

If you cannot cast out occult spirits, you might not be a true apostle.

Acts 2:43 Everyone kept feeling a sense of awe, and many wonders and signs  were taking place through the apostles.

If you are not capable of performing many signs and wonders, you might not be a true apostle.

THE FACT OF THE MATTER, IS THE APOSTLESHIP CEASED WITH THE DEATH OF THE APOSTLE JOHN.

YOU MIGHT NOT BE A TRUE APOSTLE; BECAUSE ALL THE TRUE APOSTLES ARE DEAD!

GONE: PROPHECY-TONGUES-KNOWLEDGE. REMAIN: FAITH-HOPE-LOVE.

GONE: PROPHECY-TONGUES-KNOWLEDGE. REMAIN: FAITH-HOPE-LOVE.

When are the gifts of prophecy, tongues, knowledge to be done away? When do faith, hope, and love remain?

GONE: PROPHECY-TONGUES-KNOWLEDGE.

1 Corinthians 13:8 Love never fails; but if there are gifts of prophecy, they will be done away; if there are tongues, they will cease; if there is knowledge, it will be done away. (NASB)

When will the supernatural gifts of prophecy, tongues, and knowledge be done away? Answer: When the perfect comes.

1 Corinthians 13:9-10 For we know in part and we prophesy in part; 10 but when the perfect comes, the partial will be done away.(NASB)

The perfect in verse 10 means complete. The church in its infant stage did not have God's complete revelation. The twenty first century church has God's complete revelation, the Holy Bible. The church does not need new prophecy, tongues, or supernatural knowledge in order to be the church of Christ. The only thing the church needs is God's written word, the Bible.

Some argue that the perfect in (1 Corinthians 13:10) is in reference to Jesus when He returns to take His church to heaven. Jesus is not the perfect. Jesus is the Christ. Jesus is the Son of God.

REMAIN: FAITH-HOPE-AND- LOVE.

1 Corinthians 13:13 But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love.

When did faith, hope, and love remain? Answer: After the church had the completed Bible. After the church was fully established. After the gifts of prophecy, tongues, and knowledge had vanished.

Many proclaim that faith, hope, and love will remain after Jesus takes His church to heaven. That, of course, is illogical.

FAITH: Christians will not need faith in heaven. We will see Jesus face to face. If you are in heaven; trust in Jesus will be a reality. All Christians will have already receive the inheritance of eternal life.

HOPE: Christians will not need hope in heaven. The hope of eternal life will be realized.
There will be no need for future hope.

LOVE: Love is the only thing we will take to heaven. Love is forever.

THE CHURCH NEEDS FAITH, HOPE AND LOVE, NOW.

God has given us the Bible for a reason. The Bible has all the instructions and information that the church of Jesus Christ needs in order to be His church.

(All Scripture quotes from: NEW AMERICAN STANDARD BIBLE)
